Classroom Turkey

I am so glad that Tom the Turkey found his feathers in our classroom!  I hung up this cute little turkey on November 1st, and sent home 1 feather with each student.  Their assignment was to decorate the feather using anything they had at home.  They were sooo excited when they brought their feathers in.  They were full of paint, beads, buttons, gems,  real feathers, stickers, pom poms, glitter, duct tape, and maker.  I am always so impressed with their creativity!!!

I  read one of my favorite Halloween books this past week...Scaredy Cat Splat.  My kinders love Splat Books almost as much as they love Pete the Cat.  I hope there will be a Pete the Cat Halloween book for next year!

For art this week we did sketched some cats with pencil, then traced them with crayon.  Later we watercolored.  I just love how their little personalities shine through in their art work!

We wrote about our cats for writing this week.

October Mini Book Freebie

I love making little mini books with my kinders.  The little pocket sized books are perfect for their little hands and imaginations!  Last week we make a mini book about a black cat for writers workshop.  I read a black cat book, we brainstormed things we know about cats, and off we went to our little books.  They had so much fun, and could NOT wait to take these books home.

I was so impressed with all of the books. I had 2 kinders ask for extra pages to put in their books!

The rest of our cute little books were 4 pages!

Stop by my TPT store to get an October mini book freebie, or take a look at my October mini book mega pack for sale!

Birthday Time

I can't believe I made it to the end of September without having any birthdays!  We just celebrated our first Kinder Bday on Friday.  I have always had my regular bday rituals... you get a sticker, a pencil, a special bday balloon hangs on our door, some years a bday book.  This year I was looking for something new.

A lot of people are doing the fun happy bday flags on pencils, so I made some cute jungle themed ones, and I chose pixie sticks instead of pencils, since my kids get bday pencils from the office.  I also have a fun zebra bday box.  I have some little trinkets in there, they can pick a special little toy to take home.  Right now I have whistles, and little flutes in the box.

What are some things you do to celebrate birthdays

 in your classrooms??

Fancy Fall and Freebie

Since fall happens to be my favorite season, I have been busy getting some things hung up around the room to help us all get excited about the season change!

When my kids returned from gym today I surprised them with a giant fall tree in our classroom.  The only problem was it was bare.  They were super excited about coloring giant leaves to put on the tree.  Later when I had the leaves on the tree, they were all gatherered around looking for the one they had colored.  Put a smile on my face :)

This week we painted in our warm colors again. I did this same project last year, but added larger paper (12 x 12) this year. First we sponge painted on white, then we added the black fall frame. They could choose between leaves, or a tree. It was a fun project!

Here are some giant leave freebies for you to use this fall!!

Back to School Banner Freebie

Hello Bloggers,
Are you all trying really hard, like I am, to get yourself in the back to school mood??  I have 4 days until I have to step back into my classroom.  I wish I could say it was all ready to go.  Since I was busy traveling in July... family trip to Treasure Island, then hubby and I went to my sister's wedding in Vegas.  I have not had the time, money, or energy to be creative.

Well good news.... my creative juices are once again flowing (must be the weather change with cooler temps) and I am back in the saddle!  I made this colorful KINDERGARTEN jungle banner to hang in my hallway!  Hope you can use it in your classroom.  Head over to my TPT site and grab it for FREE!

Next project.... my cute little pot filled with a welcome treat for me kinders on Back to School Night.  The pot is painted, now I need to get busy!

I am back from Vacation and a Freebie...

I just returned from a week of paradise with my family and close friends!  We went to Treasure Island Fl.  Because we are from the Midwest, I love going to the ocean!!!  Swimming, boating, dolphins, sand, sun, relaxing!! The weather was perfect, who would have guessed it would be cooler in Florida than back home. I am really jealous of all you bloggers from Florida and California :)
My Daughter and I.  Treasure Island Fl.

While I was away I got a wonderful email from Laura over at Kinder Kraziness about featuring me in her "Someone New" post!!  Head over there and check it out!  Thank you Laura!!  She has an awesome blog!!!!

Now that I am back... I needed to get myself back in the school mode.  I created a little back to school freebie!!  I plan to have my brand new Kinders draw their faces in this fancy frame, and attempt to write their little names in the bottom of it.  I made one for Kinder, First Grade, and one that can be used for any grade. I hope you can use it.  Click Here to head over to my TPT store and get your freebie!!!
