Adorable Santa Paintings

My kinders had so much fun painting Santa during art this week!  1st we wrote letters to Santa, and then we painted!  We did the paintings step by step with me modeling one color at a time.  We cut skin colored ovals for his face and glued them in the middle of the green paper.  Next, we used pencil to draw eyes, noses, mouths.  We did everything very slowly.  We painted the white parts first and added the red last.  We mixed a tiny bit of red with our white to make the cheeks!  I love how different each one is.
Merry Holidays!!!!!

Oh Christmas Tree Freebie!

I am always looking for some fun ideas for a class book, so I made this little Christmas Tree.  I had my students use the circles (ornaments) on the tree to write the letters in their first names.  They could use sharpie and then color over it with crayons.  I told them to use any colors they wanted.  Most chose green for their trees, but I have to say I love the purple and black one!
Merry Holidays!

Cute and Easy Conference Folders

Yipee!  My conferences are already over!!  Two long days, and now I am done.  For those of you that have conferences coming up in the next week or two, here is an easy folder idea.  I like to put all their recent assessments, and some work/writing samples in this folder to show at conferences.  I send home some of the pages with parents in the folder.

Directions: We took a large sheet of black construction paper and folded it (for the folder.)  Each student got a half sheet of orange paper.  I modeled how to draw and oval that takes up most of the paper.  They did a great job with this!  Glue on your oval (jack-o-lantern) body, add some pre-cut shapes to create a face, and you are all set!

Students sat in circle with their folders and we had a pass out papers party.  I passed out (sorted) all of their assessments and work samples in no time at all.  They put their papers in the folders for me!

Fancy Halloween Letter Blocks

You can't really see all of the purple glitter on the the tops and sides.  So shimmery!

Here are the plain blocks, before the decorating process.

My six year old and I had fun working on our latest project... glittery Halloween blocks.  It was a family project.  Husband cut the wood down for me, daughter painted my blocks black, and I did the decorating!  Fun times.  I am happy with the result!  Now we have to decide which ones to keep at home, and which ones I get to bring to my classroom.

Fall Class Book Freebie!!!

Here is my apple tree page for a class book!  This fun freebie will be perfect for fall.  I plan on having each student choose a number out of my basket.  Example: student chooses number 6.  They will draw six apples on their tree, any color of their choice.  This student will also fill in the number six and the color word to match their drawing.  You could also use paint dot markers, or tissue paper to make the apples.  I will bind all of these into a fun fall class book!  apple tree freebie

Fall is Here!!!

As much as I hate to see summer go.... I have to say the warm colors of fall, and the crisp cool air is quite refreshing!!  I am always telling my husband I want to live near the ocean, but I don't think I could give up the seasons in the midwest.  I love fall trees!  Last week we took our son and daughter to the apple orchard.  Today I am going to attempt apple cobbler.  Next week my class is having apple week!  I am so thankful for the wonderful blog ideas I am collecting!  We made these fall sky with trees for art this week.  My students love to watercolor!  Thank you to  artsy_T's photostream for the photo idea!

Warm Fall Colors and Art

I decided it was time to break out the messy paint this week.  My class is pretty good so I figured it was about time!  We sponge painted warm colors on one page and cool colors on the other page.  When the paint dried we put a frame over the art work.  We had three different frames to choose from: an apple, a tree, and a star.  They turned out really cute!

Happy Birthday Fun!

This year I decided to put together a birthday book bag.  All those special bonus books I get from Scholastic will help fill my bag.  Each student gets to choose a book from the bag on their birthday.  I have already given away 3!  I also put a special birthday label inside the book, reminding them of whom the book was from.  These items are for sale at my Teacher's Notebook Store.

Graphing Fun

We have been working on graphs in math.  There are so many different graphing ideas.  We had fun making our girls and boys graph for our door.  How did I get so overloaded with so many girls this year :)

We also made a favorite popsicle graph.  Instead of gluing this graph on a poster, we laid it out on the rug for the students to read.  They loved it!  What a perfect visual for them.  They each got to walk over to the rug and place their choice in the correct column.  Now I will put all of these pages into a class book and place it in our library to read.  The only thing that would have made it better would have been me passing out popsicles.  Maybe next time I will plan ahead.  I am attaching my popsicle page as a freebie for you to enjoy! Class Books

We just reached our 20th day (I can't believe it!!!)  I have worked with my kinders to create a few class books.  We had color week last week, so we read Mary Wore a Red Dress.  Old, but still perfect for K kids!  We sang for each student.  Each kid drew a picture to match our song.  Fun Times!

Kindergarten Family Portraits- Too Cute!

Everyone loves to see a Kinder Kid create a picture.  We were learning about families in Social Studies.  I had my students create little portraits of their families.  They had to tell me how many people there were, and I passed out an oval shape for each family member.  The results were too cute!  I love when they draw teeth on all of their people.

My First Week of School...

We just completed our first week (3 days) of kindergarten!  My new students are really sweet.  I had 3-4 days to completely moving into my new classroom, unpack, set up, organize, decorate, label... you know all the work that goes into the first week.  Here are a couple pics of my fun safari gear.  My favorite is the palm/chicka chicka tree that my husband helped me make.  The leaves are made out of felt.  We took a left over piece of drain supplies out of the garage and painted it brown.  Now I need to add some colorful letters.

First Day in New Room

I have been very busy moving into my new classroom this week.  They just opened the door this afternoon.  It is fun setting up a brand new room, but a bit challenging too.  Here are a couple of things I made to add to my safari gear!  The cute crates are just like the ones everyone is blogging about.  I purchased this little table for my library area and just couldn't leave it plain.  I took out my new cricut and now it looks like kindergarten.  I also added a little zebra flair on the side!

Zero the Hero

Who is he......

Zero the Hero is a special superhero.  He only comes on days ending in ZERO.  He came on our 10th day.  We did not get to see him because he came during recess.  Luckily our “hidden” camera caught a couple pictures of him.

On our 10th day he brought cookies!

On our 20th day he brought supplies to make bracelets with 10 beads.

On our 30th day we got to write 30 on a plate and use GLITTER!

He kept coming all the way through our 100th day of school.

This year I would like to make a better "puppet" we shall see if I find the time. :)

Caterpillar Numbers

Many of you probably do this already, but I just loved our daily number caterpillar last year.  I had to die cut 100 circles and have them laminated.  I did numbers 1-9 in light blue and each time I got to a ten, the circle was brown.  This made it really easy to count by 10's too.  One of our calendar jobs was to add a circle to the caterpillar.  At the beginning of the year I showed them how far it would grow across our classroom and they didn't believe me.  By the time we got to 100, they were amazed!  When we got to only 20 days left of school, we started counting backwards and removing the last 20 circles.
This isn't the best picture, but it was the best I could do.

My School Banner

I love the banner idea from Babbling Abby!  I made one in my safari theme.  I also added iron on letters to spell out my school name.  I purchased white iron on patches and cut them into circles, then ironed the zebra print letter onto those so they would stand out a little more.  Kind of difficult to see in the picture, but it looks pretty good for a DIY project with a 6 year old helping out :)

Dressed up Target baskets

I needed to organize all of my class books.  I bought a bunch of baskets from Target in the $ section.  I added a little ribbon to dress them up a bit.  I will hang a label on each one when I go back to school.

Reading Corner Bench

So I like to get crafty in July.  I am going to use a safari theme in my classroom this year.  I made this fun bench to go in my reading corner.  The best part was, my husband did not have to do any of the work.  The wood was from Lowes and already the correct size.  The cement blocks just needed some black paint, and then zebra stripes.  I also have some black crates to cover and use as the storage/stools, as soon as I get my husband to cut some wood.
